Media Reports, Press Releases and Publications

Explore our collection of academic publications covering key topics in the Open Research Data Program of the ETH Domain, an initiative aimed at promoting transparency, collaboration, and accessible research data across disciplines. The ORD Program supports researchers in sharing data responsibly, fostering an open and reproducible research environment. Our collection spans a wide range of subjects, from advancements in quantum physics and AI to sustainable energy and smart cities, encouraging innovation and knowledge exchange.

In addition, the collection offers insights into the methodologies and tools for managing and sharing open research data, addressing key considerations like privacy, data security, and intellectual property. Researchers, policymakers, and students can explore these works to gain valuable knowledge and contribute to the global open science community, tackling critical challenges with data-driven solutions.

Documents in Focus

Where employees of one of the institutions from the ETH Domain generate data in the course of their employment, the institution in question is entitled to assert rights in that data. A different rule will apply only in the case of copyright to literary and artistic works which are represented in data. This means that the institutions can generally determine how and in what form data are to be made accessible as ORD. However, ORD are subject to certain restrictions. These may arise from applicable law, thirdparty rights or contract.

Description

Tracking user identity information is crucial in open research data (ORD) for data ownership, data providence, and authorization purposes. Thus, authentication and authorization play an essential role in various ORD services. Furthermore, a lack of compatibility in authentication and authorization was identified by EG-SI as a barrier to integration and interoperability between ORD services in the ETH domain. This document provides recommendations for ETH services and infrastructure regarding authentication technologies.
