Abstract

Qualitative Data Governance for Transdisciplinary and Participatory Research

The goal of this module is to rethink the data-sharing movement for Qualitative research in a Transdisciplinary (Td) and Participatory research context, looking beyond just the outcome to the entire project process. This includes early dialogue with societal partners and the ethical considerations needed for qualitative research.

In this module, participants will learn how to:

  • Describe the relation between open science and Td research.
  • Discuss why shared data governance is critical for Td research.
  • Identify the ethical, practical, and epistemological challenges of applying standard Open Research Data (ORD) practices to qualitative data.
  • Think about key questions related to data governance in your own research project (or those you oversee) and identify relevant resources for further guidance.
  • Reflect on the different levels of data sharing to determine which are most appropriate for each kind of data in your project.
