SLIMS (LIMS + ELN)

About this service

SLIMS is a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) combined with an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN), provided to EPFL researchers through SV-IT.

The system can support the organization and documentation of research data by structuring projects, experiments, protocols, and notes in a centralized environment. The system enables sample tracking, inventory management, and biobanking traceability, as well as versioning of experimental protocols and data. SLIMS also includes access control features to manage user permissions and facilitate collaboration, including with external partners. Data are stored securely on EPFL infrastructure, and the platform offers integration capabilities through APIs. It is particularly suited for life sciences research requiring structured data management, reproducibility, and compliance with good research practices.

The product is commercially distributed and developed by Agilent. Servers and data are hosted at EPFL and entirely managed by EPFL School of Life Sciences staff. A team of 2 applications engineers from EPFL supported the laboratory for configurations.
